What is a wind tunnel/freefall simulator?
There are a number of different types of wind tunnels. These are typically used for test of drag and aerodynamics on e.g. cars, aircrafts, buildings and windmills. Unlike these which are mainly horizontal, a freefall simulator is vertical.
A freefall simulator's air is use to simulate the free fall in a sky dive.
In a freefall simulator you don't have to think about defects on the parachute or jump out an aeroplane.
The first time you try the simulator you will get thorough instructions and one of DFSP's instructors will join you in the wind tunnel.
Below you can se a short movie from the World Challenge 2009 which was held in Bedford, UK. The movie shows how their wind tunnel looks and what body-flight is all about.
